Abstract

The purpose of this study is to clarify the effects of internal longitudinal fins for annular metal hydride reaction beds. Twenty-one kinds of cylindrical tubes with stainless steel internal fins were filled with metal hydride powders (LaNi5). Experimental investigation and numerical analysis were carried out for annular reaction beds (length : 150mm, inner diameter : 40mm) and the relationships between the internal fin geometries and the reaction rates were clarified. In addition to fin geometries, the thermal conductivity and the thermal capacity of the fins were determined to be important factors determining the heat exchanger performance.
