Abstract

This article discusses the results of an investigation on the role played by the pedagogical coordinator in the school context. It is a bibliographic, documentary and field research carried out in government schools in two cities in the west of Paraná. In this investigation, we analyzed the current legislation and recent debates on the professional activity of pedagogues in school management tasks, and we interviewed: a coordinator of the Centro de Apoio Pedagógico de Pessoas Cegas e Visão Reduzida – CAP (Educational Support Center for the Blind and People with Low Vision) in Cascavel (Paraná); coordinators of four prefectural schools from different areas of Cascavel (Paraná), one from each school; a coordinator of a prefectural school in Cafelândia (Paraná). The results showed a great deal of work of the pedagogue in non-teaching duties, revealing a set of actions that exceed his/ her field and interfere with his/her daily planning, which has negative consequences for the performance of this professional.
