Abstract

Disorders of static spine are common in Parkinsonian syndromes (Parkinson's disease and multiple system atrophy) and classically non-doparesponsive. A progressive stopped posture may evolve in some cases to a disabling camptocormia linked with axial hypertonia, dystonic phenomenon and myopathy of the paraspinal muscles. The screening must be early to allow appropriate therapies based primarily on the care and rehabilitation aids. The Pisa syndrome (often irreducible lateral bending of the trunk) and the dropped head syndrome are rarer. Neuromuscular disorders are associated to spinal disorders: axial muscle weakness involves spinal instability (lordosis, camptocormia and dropped head syndrome), and rigid spine syndrome. The long-term outcome of scoliosis includes spinal pain. The orthopedic and rehabilitation care require a multidisciplinary approach.
