Abstract

The results of experimental investigations of the tribological properties of iodine, which has been used as a microadditive in cutting-fluid components (CFCs) at various operations of mechanical treatment of metals and alloys. A mechanism of formation of separating lubricating films due to the initiation of chemical reactions between iodine radicals and treated material is proposed. It has been established that the use of iodine as a CFC effectively affects the cutting characteristics and resistance characteristics of cutting tools.
