Abstract

The wear depth of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)/Kevlar fabric liner is directly related to the service life of self-lubricating spherical plain bearings. Herein, two kinds of oil-containing microcapsules were applied to improve the wear properties of PTFE/Kevlar fabric liner at various temperatures. The addition of microcapsules successfully reduced the wear and COF simultaneously, which was owing to the synergistic effect of hard shell and liquid lubricants core. The hard shell enhanced the mechanical strength of PTFE, while the released lubricants made up the shortcoming due to the incomplete PTFE lubricating film, and inhibited the abrasive wear of SiO2 debris. The present work suggested that the addition of oil-containing microcapsules was an effective method to enhance the tribological performances of PTFE/Kevlar fabric liner.
