Abstract
ABSTRACT Results of mechanical analysis of one hundred sands collected from four major depositional environments (river, desert, beach and lagoon) suggest that, in addition to certain textural parameters such as skewness and kurtosis, the use of certain raw sieve data can be meaningfully applied to the determination of depositional environments of ancient sedimentary deposits. When some of such information are plotted on triangular diagrams, sediments from the four depositional environments occupy different fields.
