Abstract

Background: Previously, we induced long-term tolerance in a miniature swine lung transplantation model with perioperative whole body irradiation and donor-specific alloantigen infusion. We also showed previously that tolerant animals developed higher frequencies of CD4+CD25high cells in peripheral blood. However, avoiding irradiation and/or pre- or postponing induction remains desirable for clinical applicability. Here we wished to substitute irradiation with anti-lymphocyte antibody treatment before or after transplantation and follow peripheral T cell phenotypes.
