Abstract
In Reply. —We appreciate the comments of Dr Geyer and colleagues regarding ourPHOTO ESSAYon a case of cavernous hemangioma of the orbit. We have subsequently reviewed their excellent article on removal of selected orbital tumors by a transconjunctival cryosurgical approach. We completely agree that many orbital tumors can be successfully removed by a transconjunctival cryosurgical approach, and we have employed their technique for several years for removal of selected anterior orbital tumors. We did not discuss this option in our shortPHOTO ESSAY, and it is possible that the tumor in our patient could have been removed by a transconjunctival approach, although lateral orbitotomy provided much better surgical exposure. Dr Geyer and associates indicate that since 1981 they have abandoned the classic lateral orbitotomy and have employed only the transconjunctival approach.
