The Sixth International Congress
  • Jul 1, 1950

The year 1950 is a notable one for British radiology, since it sees the return to our shores of the International Congress. Conceived by British radiologists after the first world war, and initiated in this country in 1925 under the Presidency of the late Dr. Thurstan Holland, the Congress has toured the world in the years between the two wars, visiting in turn Stockholm, Paris, Zurich, and Chicago. Berlin was to be the locus in 1940, but history intervened. It is a matter of pride to British radiologists that London should have again been chosen by the International Executive as the place for the 6th International Congress of Radiology. It is in a sense a tribute from our colleagues overseas to the stand that Britain took for freedom in the last decade. Any international congress is a major undertaking, and a radiological one particularly so, by reason of the associated scientific and technical exhibitions. Add to this the long interval since the last congress in 1937, which has made so many anxious to a...

The 15 years between the First International Congress 'Psoriasis: from Gene to Clinic' and the Sixth Congress held in London from 1 to 3 December 2011 have seen extraordinary progress in the sciences that are relevant to psoriasis and therapeutics that have transformed its treatment. Over this time, 'Psoriasis: from Gene to Clinic' has emerged as the premier conference for clinicians and scientists interested in this field. Its popularity is attested to by the 450 registered delegates from the U.K. and around the world, which necessitated a change of venue to the excellent facilities of the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre. Although the content has evolved over the years, the structure of this 3-day conference has remained similar. The first day was given to genetics, comorbidities and outcome measures. Immunology and immunity were covered on the second day and therapeutics on the third. The stature of the three keynote lecturers and eight invited speakers was truly world class and their presentations were interspersed with 23 free communications. Here we review highly selected personal highlights of the meeting that we hope will be of general interest.

The Sixth International Congress on High-Speed Photography — A Review
  • Jul 1, 1963
  • Journal of the SMPTE
  • Max Beard

The biennial meetings of the International Congresses on High-Speed Photography are becoming increasingly important to science and industry. As specialists in high-speed photography continuously devise better equipment and techniques, scientists and engineers, not necessarily experts in the field, should be better able to utilize these procedures for solutions to their own specific problems. Without question, the dissemination of the material of these Congresses is valuable to research and development in a number of countries.

Dear Readers, I am pleased to announce the successful conclusion of the 2023 International Congress on Ultrasonics in Beijing (the 2023 ICU BEIJING), organized and hosted by the International Congress on Ultrasonics (ICU), the Institute of Acoustics in the Chinese Academy of Sciences (IACAS), and the Acoustical Society of China (ASC) in September 2023. The 2023 ICU Beijing aimed to bring together professionals and experts from academia and industry across all disciplines of ultrasonics, encompassing fundamental science and applications such as engineering material characterization and quality inspection, chemical and biological US-based monitoring, medical imaging, and therapy, among others. This congress offered more than 830 presentations covering various domains of ultrasonics and their applications. The program included 7 keynote presentations from world experts, 63 invited lectures, 547 oral contributions, and around 220 posters. For further information, please visit https://www.2021icu.org.cn/. As usual, there will be a proceeding of the 2023 ICU BEIJING after the congress. Through collaborations with the International Organization Committee and the Scientific Committee of the 2023 ICU Beijing, etc., we have selected 800 peer-reviewed abstracts that were presented at the congress. These presentations reflected the state-of-the-art scientific advancements and technological progress in ultrasonic scientific research and applications in recent years. Due to the impact of COVID-19, there is still much high-quality research work not included. After the completion of the congress, we selected 202 submitted papers by our peer reviewers and scientific committee which will be published in the Journal of Physics Conference Series (JPCS) as the proceeding of the 2023 ICU BEIJING. On behalf of the Organizing Committee, the Scientific Committee of the 2023 ICU BEIJING, and the ICU Board Members, I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to our Session Organizers, Plenary speakers, Session invited speakers, peer reviewers, IOP Publishers of the JPCS, as well as all those who have contributed to this proceeding. It is your participation and support that make the proceeding available. Yours sincerely, Xiuming Wang President of the 2023 ICU BEIJING Chair of the International Congress on Ultrasonics List of Scientific Committee Members of the Proceeding of 2023 ICU BEIJING are available in this Pdf.

The article presents the first part of the re-search devoted to the history of the Second Congress on the History of Science in London in 1931. The author reconstructs the history of the preparation of the Second International Congress on the History of Science. The article describes the history of the origin of the idea of international historical-scientific congresses and shows the role of Paul Tannery as an initi-ator of specialized congresses on the history of science. It is pointed out that P. Tannery connected his philosophical and methodolog-ical views with the positivism of O. Comte and considered himself a continuer of his teach-ings. The article evaluates the philosophical and methodological views of P. Tannery. The author offers a reconstruction of philo-sophical views of the prominent historian of science G. Sarton, who considered himself a successor of P. Tannery and O. Comte. The ar-ticle points out that the initiatives of P. Tan-nery’s initiatives led to the organization of the International Committee for the History of Science in 1928. The article reconstructs the history of the founding of this historical-scientific organization, which today is one of the oldest specialized historical-scientific in-stitutions in the world. The history of the First International Congress on the History of Sci-ence in Paris is described, along with the his-tory of the preparation of the Second Interna-tional Congress. The composition of the organ-izing committee of the Second International Congress on the History of Science in London is given. The author shows that all the main issues concerning the organization of the con-gress, its ideas and strategy were resolved by the spring of 1930.
