Training, Skills, Professions, and Labor Market in Medical Imaging and Radiotherapy
Abstract
The health professions are constantly facing unavoidable challenges and contingencies due to the wide range of societal challenges. Despite the differences between training, knowledge, skills, professions, and the labor market, it is certain that there must be some coherence between them, otherwise it will not meet the emerging social needs in this area. Portugal is usually recognized as an excellent trainer in the areas of healthcare technologies, specifically radiology, radiotherapy, and nuclear medicine. Recently, for reasons that are still unclear, training paths were reformulated, making them much less specialized than the previous ones. Despite the pretext of aiming to a European convergence, analyzing the documents of the European Federation of Radiographers Society (EFRS), the authors find that Portugal, along with Hungary, is isolated in this new training model.
