Abstract
The purpose of training physicians in clinical microbiology or in infectious diseases is to enable them to acquire knowledge, experience and the skills necessary to provide responsible care for patients of all ages in these specialist areas. This themed issue of Clinical Microbiology and Infection (CMI), entitled Training in clinical microbiology and infectious diseases in Europe, aims to provide an overview of the present situation in the European Union and associated countries.
