Abstract

This paper presents a study on the traction characteristics in concave and convex roller pair contacts. The traction coefficient, bearing friction, oil film formation and oil film temperature were measured under the different running conditions by using the concave and convex roller testing machine, which had been developed by the authors. On the basis of these results the effects of specific sliding, contact pressure, roller speed and surface roughness on the traction coefficient and oil film formation were investigated. Furthermore, the relation between oil film formation, oil film temperature and concave and convex roller speed was clarified to a considerable extent.
