Abstract

SYNOPSIS Counts of bushbuck tracks were used to estimate their population densities. Good correlations were obtained between various indices of track frequency and estimated absolute population density. The technique is therefore recommended for assessing the absolute density of a population. High sampling costs, however, disqualify the technique for detecting small changes in density.
