Digital production, transmission and storage have revolutionized how we access and use information but have also made archiving an increasingly complex task that requires active, continuing maintenance of digital media. This challenge has focused some interest on DNA as an attractive target for information storage because of its capacity for high-density information encoding, longevity under easily achieved conditions and proven track record as an information bearer. Previous DNA-based information storage approaches have encoded only trivial amounts of information or were not amenable to scaling-up, and used no robust error-correction and lacked examination of their cost-efficiency for large-scale information archival. Here we describe a scalable method that can reliably store more information than has been handled before. We encoded computer files totalling 739 kilobytes of hard-disk storage and with an estimated Shannon information of 5.2 × 10(6) bits into a DNA code, synthesized this DNA, sequenced it and reconstructed the original files with 100% accuracy. Theoretical analysis indicates that our DNA-based storage scheme could be scaled far beyond current global information volumes and offers a realistic technology for large-scale, long-term and infrequently accessed digital archiving. In fact, current trends in technological advances are reducing DNA synthesis costs at a pace that should make our scheme cost-effective for sub-50-year archiving within a decade.

Towards a framework for the appraisal of digital products for mental health

Introduction: Mental health disorders are the largest cause of disability in the UK, affecting 1 in 4 people over their lifespan and demand for services already exceeds NHS resources. Advances in digital information and communication technology (ICT) offer the potential to transform mental healthcare through improved detection and access to services and more effective and flexible treatments. There are, however, unique risks associated with digital mental healthcare products that must also be considered. The huge potential that these products promise to deliver services in new ways and to hand more control to patients – is also the greatest barrier to their adoption. Services may need be reconfigured, and users must be assured about safety, security and effectiveness. A number of national, strategic initiatives are looking at this topic and this work is essential. Also required, however, are smaller projects that start to use these products in order to learn: • What patients, practitioners and commissioners want from digital products. • What information they need when considering using or purchasing them. • What barriers exist to adopting these technologies. • What should the role be of regulators, policy makers and initiatives such as the NHS Apps library. This paper describes such a project. Aims: This paper will describe: • The development of an initial framework for the appraisal of digital mental health products being considered for use in the NHS (complete). Results: In March 2014 a workshop brought together 20 individuals (practitioners, researchers, service users, technology developers, clinical and information governance managers and a digital health policy expert) from a range of organisations including MindTech, Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, The University of Leeds and Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust. Findings of workshop: A staged, proportionate approach to appraisal required. This should begin with basic requirements such as safety and quality and move to more advanced requirements such as clinical and cost-effectiveness if and when appropriate. There is not currently an effective marketplace for digital products that clearly defines NHS requirements and allows developers to demonstrate how they meet and exceed these. This could drive innovation and raise standards. An initial framework was developed, consisting of four categories, each with 7 10 ‘essential criteria’: Information Governance, Information technology and interoperability; clinical validity, research and evidence; safety and regulation; design, accessibility and usability. This is currently being applied by practitioners and service users across a number of trusts and will be refined based on the results of this. Conclusion: As the adage goes, necessity is the mother of invention. This project developed as a result of a number of organisations wanting to use digital mental healthcare products and discovering no existing guidance or leadership on how to appraise these. Our findings will have implications not just for practitioners and users but also for policy makers, regulators and developers. Many of the issues addressed in this project are not unique to mental health and are therefore relevant to other clinical areas.

FEATURES OF DEVELOPING A DIGITAL PRODUCT CONCEPT USING A VALUE-BASED APPROACH

The purpose of this article is to conduct a comprehensive study of contemporary approaches to the formation of digital product concepts in marketing, with an emphasis on their advantages, disadvantages, and methodological features. Particular attention is paid to the theoretical and practical justification of the feasibility of transitioning to a value-oriented approach, which is considered as a means of improving the process of developing digital product concepts. The article proposes an integrated model that allows for the effective combination of existing value development tools and modern organizational and technological solutions for creating competitive digital solutions. Methodology. The article uses theoretical and methodological analysis of literary sources devoted to the concept of digital products and services, as well as a comparative review of the most common approaches to value creation in the digital environment. Particular attention is paid to analyzing the impact of organizational models, modern digital business processes, and technological solutions on the value design process. The proposed approach is based on a critical rethinking of existing theories and models (in particular, Value Proposition Canvas, Jobs-to-be-Done, Kano Model) combined with an analysis of the real practices of digital companies, which allows synthesizing our own integrated methodology for improving the concept of digital products. Results. Application of the proposed framework results in a comprehensive and iterative process for digital product concept development, which systematically integrates user needs, business model validation, and feature prioritization. The methodology enables IT companies to identify and prioritize features that maximize user satisfaction (as measured by the Kano model) while balancing resource constraints and market realities. The developed Integrated Canvas for Digital Product Value Definition allows for the creation of clear, actionable product concepts optimized for both user value and practical feasibility. The adaptability of the framework supports iterative refinement in response to new data or shifting organizational capabilities. Practical implications. The framework offers a structured pathway to minimize the risks associated with misalignment between product features, user expectations, and company resources. By deeply embedding user value through interdisciplinary techniques and continuous validation, IT companies can decrease time-to-market, lower the rate of product failures, and more efficiently allocate development resources. The approach also facilitates cross-functional collaboration and informed decision-making in fast-paced digital environments. Value / originality. The originality of this work lies in its integration of established methodologies – JTBD, VPC, and the Kano model – within a unified, actionable, and iterative canvas tailored for digital product development. By systematically balancing user-centric value creation with realistic assessments of economic and organizational constraints, this article provides a novel, comprehensive solution to one of the central challenges in digital marketing and product management. The framework offers significant theoretical and practical advances, supporting greater agility, innovation, and success in digital product development for IT companies.

Teachers' perspectives on digitalized education and deterrents to the use of digital products in educational processes

In a globalizing world, the development of the educational field is considered the most important part of international competitiveness and improvement projects. This article aimed to research the educators' views on the use of digital technology and products in their educational process. Questionnaire was used as a research technique, with 147 participant teachers at general secondary schools in Russia. The analysis of the data was through coding. The true nature of the ecosystem of digitalized education was fully covered by the authors in this study. According to educators, the main advantages of digital technology and digital technology products for the educational field are education continuity, accessibility, individualization, freedom of choice, social equality for students and quality of education. Authors of this article revealed that deterrents against using digital products and digital technology in education processes in teachers' opinion are lack of motivation, funds, knowledge and methodology.

IMPLEMENTASI PRINSIP SYARIAH DALAM PRODUK DIGITAL BANKING BANK JAGO SYARIAH

This study aims to analyze the implementation of sharia principles in the digital banking products offered by Bank Jago Syariah. With the rapid development of financial technology, Islamic banks face challenges in integrating sharia principles into digital products without violating applicable sharia regulations. This research employs a qualitative approach with descriptive analysis based on secondary data, including annual reports and literature related to digital Islamic products. The findings reveal that Bank Jago Syariah has successfully implemented sharia principles in its digital products, such as murabahah financing and sharia savings, by avoiding elements of riba, gharar, and maysir. However, the study also identifies significant challenges related to customer understanding of sharia contracts in digital transactions and potential risks to data security. Additionally, there are limitations in the accessibility of digital products for customers with low technological literacy, potentially hindering financial inclusion. The impact of digital technology adoption on financial inclusion shows mixed results, as technology-savvy segments benefit significantly, while those with low digital literacy still face barriers in utilizing these services. The digital Islamic products offered by Bank Jago Syariah tend to be underutilized by customers who do not fully understand the contracts used. Despite the advanced technology employed, data protection issues remain a concern. This study recommends that Bank Jago Syariah enhance customer education regarding digital Islamic products and strengthen security systems to reduce uncertainty and improve transparency. Furthermore, strategies to enhance financial inclusion through simplified technology access for less tech-savvy customers need to be developed. The adoption of technologies such as blockchain is also proposed to improve accountability, transparency, and compliance with sharia principles. Marketing using digital products is one way to do marketing through social media that uses the internet. The purpose of this study was to determine the interest of tape makers in the use of digital products and the factors that influence them. The sampling method used the survey method and obtained 45 respondents of tape makers on the scale of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Banjarsari Village, Ngajum District, Malang Regency. The descriptive analysis method is used to analyze the interest of tape makers in the use of digital products. While Partial Least Square (PLS) analysis is used to analyze the factors that influence the interest of tape makers in digital products. The results showed that tape makers have an interest in digital products in marketing tape. However, tape makers are not interested in applying or using digital information products in marketing tape. This is due to several factors that influence significantly, including advances in information technology, the ability of tape makers, environment, competition, and capital.

Angular‐Encrypted Quad‐Fold Display of Nanoprinting and Meta‐Holography for Optical Information Storage

The compactness and programmable versatility make metasurface a promising candidate for optical information encryption and storage. The typical strategy for storage capacity enhancement is essential to expand the metasurface multiplexing channels. Various controllable optical parameters are progressively realized for optical encryption and multiplexing, including wavelength, polarization, orbital angular momentum (OAM), forward/backward illumination, etc. However, as one of the most critical parameters, the incident wavevector (k) direction, namely, the illumination angle, has not been fully explored due to the lack of angular‐encoding capability. Herein, the angular‐encrypted freedom for both amplitude and phase manipulation is theoretically and experimentally achieved by strategically screening the architectural blocks to fulfill the complex‐amplitude requirement. Utilizing the angular‐induced alteration from surface plasmonic resonances (SPRs) and Fabry–Perot (FP) nanocavity resonances, a single angular‐encrypted metasurface has been successfully realized to simultaneously enable quad‐fold independent‐encoding channels, including dual‐holography and dual‐nanoprinting images. Compared to the spatial multiplexing scheme in many previous works, the angular‐encrypted strategy drastically boosts the information storage density and capacity. It is believed that the proposed angular‐encryption finds a new path to achieve multiplexing meta‐devices with fully controlled angular‐resolution and promisingly expands the information capacity for optical encryption with a brand‐new degree of freedom.

Most service providers concentrate on delivery and this involves communication and value-added services. These are increasingly being taken up by users and new digital services are set to become ubiquitous. However, traditionally the home has been using information in a variety of ways and it is envisaged that this type of use will continue and expand, especially since the new services also have their own requirement for storage (at least in the short term). The storage of information in home has, until now, been done via a diverse range of devices and formats and physical and logical storage systems have become widespread. (e.g. books and bookcases, video cassettes, audio CDs etc.). Now storage is set to become fully digital and transitional arrangements are showing that this is not always an easy process. The ways in which users organise their stored information has largely depended on the format that was used to store it. This imposes physical restrictions on both the storage and retrieval of information in the home. One of the main considerations being ease of use and ease of location. Digital storage, whist providing a simple, robust, physically small and highly searchable store has the problems of needing specialised programmes to recreate what users may want from the systems and at the same time users may not be aware of the power of systems that are available for home use. Digital economy: opportunities for transformation of entepreneurial structures

Purpose. To analyze the stages of digital transformation of entrepreneurial structures and identify the levels of transformation. Methodology. In the process of scientific research on the digital economy and the transformation of entrepreneurial structures, the following methods were utilized: expert assessment (involving experts from various fields of economic activity allowed for additional conclusions and recommendations regarding the possibilities of implementing digital technologies in entrepreneurial structures), scenario modeling (by developing various scenarios for the implementation of digital initiatives, the potential consequences and results of each were investigated), systems analysis (enabled considering the interrelations between various aspects of digital transformation and its impact on the economy and society as a whole), and marketing research (helped identify market needs and requirements for the implementation of digital solutions and products). Findings. The research considered the stages of digital transformation of entrepreneurial structures, which involve assessing the current state and readiness of the enterprise for the implementation of digital transformation; studying the potential offered by digital transformation and its effective implementation; investing in advanced digital technologies and the development of new digital products; designing and releasing products and services based on advanced digital technologies; controlling the transformed business and implementing advanced digital technologies and innovative business models. Advantages of digital transformation of business models are considered, which involve increasing the number of customers, enhancing customer satisfaction, increasing lead generation, traffic growth. The authors identified six levels of “digital transformation” of entrepreneurial structures, describing the stages of changes in business models caused by digital transformations: unsystematic level, opportunities monitoring, replicable level, results-driven, achieved controlling, and optimized level. Originality. A stage of digital transformation of entrepreneurial structures has been proposed: controlling the transformed business and implementing advanced digital technologies, which allows tracking the implementation of the strategy and achieving goals in the context of digital development. The authors highlighted such stages of digital transformation of entrepreneurial structures as opportunities monitoring and achieved controlling, which, unlike those existing in the scientific community, play a key role in the path of digital transformation of entrepreneurial structures. Practical value. The analysis conducted confirms the relevance of issues related to the digital transformation of entrepreneurial structures, the formation of changes in views on stages and levels of digital transformation in accordance with current trends and uncertain conditions. The research results can be taken into account and practically implemented when forming policies for the digital transformation of entrepreneurial structures, regardless of the field of activity.

Robust direct digital-to-biological data storage in living cells

DNA has been the predominant information storage medium for biology and holds great promise as a next-generation high-density data medium in the digital era. Currently, the vast majority of DNA-based data storage approaches rely on in vitro DNA synthesis. As such, there are limited methods to encode digital data into the chromosomes of living cells in a single step. Here, we describe a new electrogenetic framework for direct storage of digital data in living cells. Using an engineered redox-responsive CRISPR adaptation system, we encoded binary data in 3-bit units into CRISPR arrays of bacterial cells by electrical stimulation. We demonstrated multiplex data encoding into barcoded cell populations to yield meaningful information storage and capacity up to 72 bits, which can be maintained over many generations in natural open environments. This work establishes a direct digital-to-biological data storage framework and advances our capacity for information exchange between silicon- and carbon-based entities.

INFORMATION LITERACY INITIATIVES IN HIGHER EDUCATION: ORIGINS, OPTIONS AND OBSERVATIONS

It should come as little surprise that the technological advances in information storage and retrieval have led many in the information professions to renewed concerns for educating student users in college libraries. The introduction of electronic information retrieval methods and an explosion in the amount of information available online and across media have created a sort of instructional imperative, to which many in the academic community have responded. This move, which characterizes so many programs in public, school, and academic libraries, is consistent with contemporary models of librarianship that emphasize information access over information acquisition and storage. This agenda has important implications for 21st century library administrators, reference professionals, and LIS educators, even though the practice of “teaching the use of books and libraries” (Rothstein, 1955, p. 14) has 19th century roots. Indeed, from an early date academic librarians viewed “bibliographical information” provided by “the librarian of their college or university” (Adams, 1887, quoted in Rothstein) as key in enabling students “in all their after lives to do their individual work more readily and successfully (Barnard, 1838, quoted in Rothstein).

Designing DNA code: quantity and quality

With the development of modern technology, traditional computers have reached the physical limit in information storage and parallel computing. DNA computing was born to solve the above problem. DNA computing is essentially implemented based on a new computational model of DNA molecules. DNA code design is a vital step of DNA computing process. The quantity and quality of the code can directly affect the accuracy and efficiency of DNA computing. At present, the research direction of DNA code is divided into set design and quality optimisation. Set design is to improve the lower bound of the code. Quality optimisation makes DNA code meet more constraints. This paper summarises the code problems in the DNA computing process, the combinatorial constraints that the code needs to satisfy and the intelligent optimisation algorithm used in code. Finally, the problems of DNA code and the future development direction are analysed.
