Abstract

In 1997 the Asia-Paci® c Network Operations and Management Symposium (APNOMS’ 97) was held in Renaissance Seoul Hotel, Seoul, Korea in October 8±10, 1997. APNOMS is a new form of a meeting where researchers and practitioners in the Asia-Paci® c region get together, present their work, and share their ideas and views on the ® eld of network operations and management. APNOMS’ 97 was co-sponsored by the Korean Institute of Communication Sciences (KICS) committee on Korea Network Operations and Management (KNOM) and the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE) Network Operations and System management Committee (NOSC), and co-supported by IEEE Committee on Network Operation and Management (CNOM), Network Management Forum (NMF) and The Electronic Times. APNOMS’ 97 was attended by 245 participants from the Asian-Paci® c countries as well as some from North America and Europe. The theme of this symposium was a Toward Global Network Managemento . This three-day symposium featured tutorials, keynote speeches, technical sessions, exhibitions and a panel session. The ® rst day of the symposium featured tutorials on the latest breaking technologies. The ® rst tutorial was given by Elizabeth Adams (Managing Director, NMF) and Keith Willetts (President, NMF) on the current programs and future directions of NMF. James Won-Ki Hong (POSTECH, Korea) gave the second tutorial on Web-based systems and network management. The third tutorial was given by Mehmet Ulema (Daewoo Telecom, USA) on personal communication services and mobility management. Grahm Chen (CiTR, Australia) gave the fourth tutorial on building integrated telecommunication management network
