Abstract
Abstract This paper, the second of a two‐part series, examines the interplay of social, psychodynamic and developmental factors in the etiology of psychosocial dysfunction among a particular population of single teenage mothers. It also presents a model of expressively oriented, long term group intervention for mothers and children, which systematically addresses both environmental and developmental issues. The results of this project suggest that developmentally‐oriented groups may be a treatment of choice for young women who attempt to ameliorate the effects of significant environmental disadvantage and master the essential life stage tasks of adolescent development by assuming the social role of single mother, head of household.
