Abstract

THE QUESTION of whether or not science is gendered is unquestionably complex. One may wonder if posing the question is by itself helpful to scientific inquiry. One may wonder yet if the question can be answered in any useful heuristic frame of reference. Fretting over this question and possible answers to it, we came across two precedent setting statements. One came from Oscar Wilde, the other from Richard Rorty. The former statement from Oscar Wilde comes through Andre Gide: 'There are,' [Wilde] used to say, 'two kinds of artists: some bring answers and the others bring questions.
