Purpose: This study investigated tourism seasonality and adaptation strategies of managers and owners of tourism and hospitality businesses. The research aimed to deepen understanding of how seasonal fluctuations influence tourism operations and to identify managerial practices that enhance resilience and performance in seasonally affected destinations. Design/Method/Approach: Data for this study were collected from the Scopus database and analyzed using bibliometric and systematic review methods. A total of 867 publications from 2005–2025 were considered, and bibliometric analysis was conducted with Biblioshiny in RStudio. Additionally, a purposive set of tourism-focused articles was examined to gain insight into practical adaptation measures. Findings: Findings revealed that 2021 recorded the highest scientific outputs (98 articles), and the University of Granada emerged as the most productive institution in this field. Results confirmed that severe climate conditions act as push factors reducing tourism flows, while favorable weather conditions act as pull factors. Core managerial strategies identified include operational flexibility, cost-saving initiatives, workforce adjustments, and proactive planning to stabilize performance during low seasons. Theoretical Implications: Guided by contingency theory, the study demonstrates that effective managerial adaptation in tourism is context-dependent and requires proactive decision-making aligned with seasonal environmental conditions. Practical Implications: Proactiveness is crucial to mitigating seasonality’s effects. Tourism managers must implement flexible staffing, financial planning, demand stimulation measures, and diversified offerings. Policy support is recommended to assist businesses during low-demand periods. Originality/Value: The study maps scholarly trends in tourism seasonality and highlights strategic responses, combining bibliometric evidence with conceptual insights relevant to practitioners and researchers. Research Limitations/Future Research: The Scopus DOI search returned some non-tourism records, and author names occasionally appeared inconsistently. Future studies should refine filters and explore technology adoption and climate-resilient business models as responses to seasonality. Paper Type: Conceptual JEL Classification: Z32, L83, Q56, O44, J44, R11

  • Feb 28, 2024
  • Review of Managerial Science
  • Inmaculada Martín-Rojo + 1 more

The meetings, incentives, conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) tourism has intensively grown in recent decades. The MICE sector has also been strongly affected by social and technological changes, especially new social habits resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. Our research maps the state of the art in MICE tourism and its digitalization from 1997 (first published article found on the subject) to 2022, as well as the changes brought about by COVID-19 to the management of MICE tourism. To identify the main changes caused by COVID-19 pandemic in MICE tourism management, we carried out a survey based on surveys with Conference managers, Exhibition and Trade Fair Centers, and Convention Bureaus in Spain, a leading country in MICE tourism worldwide. For this purpose, we carried out a survey based on surveys with managers of Conference, Exhibition and Trade Fair Centers and Convention Bureaus in Spain, a leading country in MICE tourism worldwide, to identify the main changes that the COVID-19 pandemic has caused in the management of this type of tourism. Based on the results obtained, a bibliometric analysis was carried out using the software SciMAT to find out the thematic evolution of the terms MICE tourism, digital and Business Tourism. This study identifies the most significant topics in MICE tourism management during the pre-pandemic period (1997–2019), the pandemic, and post-pandemic period (2020–2022). We also analyzed the most cited concepts during 1997–2019, as well as their evolution towards other concepts in 2020–2022. Considering the results obtained, future lines of research related to innovation, digitalization, social networks, and destination analysis are proposed for a better and more competitive management of this tourism activity.

A bibliometric analysis of digital financial literacy
  • May 31, 2023
  • American Journal of Business
  • Mansi Yadav + 1 more

PurposeThere has been a great deal of exploratory, conceptual and empirical research on digital financial literacy (DFL) in the fields of finance, economics, business and management. But up until now, there has not been any attempt to provide a thorough scientific mapping of the area. Therefore, by combining various knowledge systems, this study seeks to identify the current research trend.Design/methodology/approachA sample of 158 papers was subjected to bibliometric analysis in the areas of DFL or digital finance. Assembling, organising and evaluating are the three phases that make up the bibliometric analysis process derived from the most dependable and genuine sources, the Scopus database, and the Web of Science (WoS) database. This study was done using a scientific search technique on the Scopus and WoS databases for the years 2015 through 2022. The study made use of Biblioshiny, a web-based tool created in R-studio and part of the Bibliometrix package. Prominent journals, authors, nations, articles and themes were identified with the use of the software's automated workflow. “Citation, co-citation, and social network analysis” were also carried out.FindingsThe study' outcomes indicate that, as an interdisciplinary discipline, the themes of digital finance have changed throughout time. Researchers first concentrated on socioeconomic and demographic variables, but over time the subject expanded to include themes like influencing, promoting, and behavioural factors that affect digital financial literacy (DFL). This research shows the conceptual framework of the area in addition to its intellectual and social structure. This study offers crucial insights into subjects that demand more research.Research limitations/implicationsSince the current study is a bibliometric analysis, the usual restrictions on such studies apply. A meta-analysis, a thorough literature review and other methods would be beneficial for future researchers to develop a solid conceptual framework. This current research work's science mapping is restricted to the Scopus and WoS databases because this research includes more high-quality articles and has organised formats that work with the Bibliometrix application.Practical implicationsPresent research provides critical insights into saving behaviour, retirement planning, digital finance and the interdependence of these. This research highlights the most prevalent problems in the field and points in the direction of potential areas for further study. Exposing the social and intellectual structure of the domain educates upcoming scholars about the themes, contexts and opportunities for collaboration in this field.Social implicationsThe study will be useful for future learning as the study gives broad exposure to the current literature in the field of digital finance. On the other hand, people will also grow aware of the effects of digital finance and make the proper choices as a result. Additionally, the report might offer crucial insights for developing policies on digital finance and literacy.Originality/valueIn the past, a significant number of conceptual and empirical studies were conducted internationally in the research fields of economics, finance, business, management and consumer behaviour. This research makes a significant addition by bringing together disparate literature in the field, highlighting reliable sources, authors and documents, and examining the relationship between digital finance, saving behaviour and retirement planning.

Past, present and future impact of social media on health workers’ mental health: a text mining approach
  • Jan 17, 2023
  • Journal of Modelling in Management
  • Chowdhury Noushin Novera + 4 more

PurposeThe COVID-19 epidemic has brought attention to the variables that influence the mental health of health workers who are entrusted with nursing individuals. Despite the fact that many articles have examined the effects of social media usage on mental health, there is a lack of research synthesizing learning from this body of research. The purpose of this study is to use text mining and citation-based bibliometric analysis to conduct a detailed review of extant literature on health workers’ mental health and social networking habits.Design/methodology/approachThis study conducts a full-text analysis of 36 articles selected on health workers' mental health and social media using text-mining techniques in R programming and a bibliometric citation analysis of 183 papers from the Scopus database in VOS viewer software. But the limitations of the methods used in this study are that the bibliometric analysis was limited to the Scopus database because the VOS viewer program did not support any other database and the text-mining approach caused the natural processing redundancy.FindingsThe bibliometric analysis reveals the thematic networks that exist in the literature of health workers’ mental health and social networking. The findings from text mining identified ten topic models, which helped to find the related papers classified in ten different groups and are provided alongside a summary of the published research and a list of the primary authors with posterior probability through Latent Dirichlet Allocation.Originality/valueTo the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first hybrid review, combining text mining and bibliometric review, on health workers’ mental health where social networking plays a moderating role. This paper critically provides an overview of the impact of social networking on health workers' mental health, presents the most important and frequent topics, introduces the scientific visualization of articles published in the Scopus database and suggests further research avenues. These findings are important for academics, health practitioners and medical specialists interested in learning how to better support the mental health of health workers using social media.
