Abstract
The Cutting Edge: Challenges in Medical and Surgical Therapeutics REPORT OF CASES CASE 1 A 2½-year-old girl had a pruritic linear lesion over her left knee that had been present for more than 1 year. Reportedly, the lesion started as a cluster of tiny skincolored papules that gradually enlarged and merged into a continuous warty linear lesion, surrounded with a pink halo. There was no personal or family history of psoriasis. On clinical examination there was a hyperkeratotic, confluent, linear, 8×2-cm plaque with a narrow erythematous halo on the lateral aspect of the left knee. Results of a histological examination of the lesion showed epidermal acanthosis, alternating parakeratosis and orthokeratosis, and slight spongiosis with scalecrust in the stratum corneum. Chronic inflammatory infiltrate was present in the upper dermis. Clinical and histological features were consistent with a diagnosis of inflammatory linear verrucous epidermal nevus (ILVEN).
