Abstract

Child discipline and classroom discipline are subjects of an ongoing debate between educators, psychologists and legislators in many countries. In 1979, Sweden went so far as to totally outlaw corporal punishment. It is considered that SPI can offer a valuable international forum for furthering the debate, and so the follow ing two articles are published to initiate this forum, and to encourage the submission of further manuscripts contributing to it. The first article is reprinted from The Swedish Institute's publication Current Sweden (No. 229, July, 1979) and was first released in 1979 at the time corporal punishment was banned in Sweden. for further issues we invite contributions from Swedish psychologists describing the effects of such legislation after two years. The second article argues the need for proper respect and discipline in the Classroom
