While the genus Mucuna is known for its nutritional (e.g., Mucuna pruriens) and medicinal properties, the understudied species Mucuna melanocarpa remains a largely unexplored reservoir of unique bioactive compounds. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the qualitative and quantitative phytochemical analysis and bioactive compound identification using GC-MS technique. 50 g of the sample powder was added into a round beaker containing 500 mL of ethanol and then kept in a rotary shaker at 190-220 rpm for 48 hrs at 37℃ and the solution was filtered using Whatman filter paper No. 1. The filtrate was evaporated at room temperature to get the dry extract. The GC-MS analysis of M. melanocarpa seed extract was performed using GC -MS equipment to identify the phytochemical constituents. The phytochemical screening revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, steroids, terpenoids saponins, tannins and proteins. The GC-MS analysis showed the presence of two major compounds Octacosane (10.45%) and Geraniol (3.02%) known for their Antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor property.
