This is an accepted article with a DOI pre-assigned that is not yet published.Prenatal screening and diagnosis aim to identify possible congenital anomalies in fetuses during pregnancy. Decisions on prenatal diagnosis and termination of pregnancy are heavily value driven, where religious beliefs also play a major role. This paper reviews and analyzes the Islamic ethical discourse on prenatal diagnosis and termination of pregnancy due to fetal anomaly. The paper provides an in-depth content analysis of the contemporary Islamic bioethical discourse, points out existing gaps in the literature, and demonstrates the importance of understanding the Islamic perspectives on the beginning of life in antenatal care. For the purposes of this paper, a scoping literature review was conducted on available theoretical and empirical literature in English and Arabic. Results indicate a real scarcity of literature addressing the Islamic ethical perspectives on prenatal diagnosis and termination of pregnancy, and the urgent need for further research that addresses the topic in depth and breadth.
