Abstract

Abstract This paper examines patterns of punctuality with the Pakistani society. There are several dimensions which were logically related to “time” behavior. The first dimension is the temporal orientation. Are people more oriented to the past, present, or future? The second dimension is the set of cultural expectations which coordinate the behavior of punctuality. What are the social and cultural definitions of punctuality? The third and final dimension concerns the existence of sanctions pertaining to punctuality. On the second and third dimensions, an analytical distinction was made concerning the “sacred” and “profane” spheres of life It was found that the dominant time value orientation for our respondents woe past, present, future while the major variant was present, past, future. This value orientation further demonstrates the society's traditionalism.
