Abstract

B2-type intermetallic compound FeRh shows a typical first order ferro–antiferro magnetostructural transition without any lattice symmetry change but the volume change. In this paper, we found that the first order magnetostructural transition of FeRh exhibits time dependent nature. That is, the transition has a huge incubation time (∼103s) to occur when it is held at temperatures above its transition temperature and proceeds during holding, as in the martensitic transformation with lattice symmetry change.
