Abstract

The vascularized fibula flap has become one of the most reliable methods for reconstruction of the mandible.1,2 The blood supply to the fibula and the overlying skin is consistently based on the peroneal artery located between the tibialis posterior and flexor hallucis longus muscles. The vascular pedicle is usually of large caliber and good length for reliable microvascular anastomosis. The tibia and fibula are connected by the tibiofibular joints (superior and inferior) and the interosseous membrane, which spans the length of the 2 bones.
