Abstract

Threshold Women's Mental Health Initiative has been providing services to women on low income for the past twelve years. The charity is based in Brighton, in the south of England, but has a national perspective through its Women and Mental Health Infoline. Threshold's remit from the outset was to promote improved mental health services for women. It has done this through campaigning and advocating, through dialogue with the statutory service providers, and through providing its own women's specific services, trainings and conferences. Apart from the Infoline, Threshold provides community drop-in sessions, a counselling and therapy service offering both one-to-one and group support, an annual conference and a training programme for workers in the field of women's mental health. There is no other organization of its kind in the UK.
