Abstract

Thermogravimetrical analysis of foundry-coke and anthracite samples is undertaken on a Setaram derivatograph by dilution of a weighed powder sample in thermally inert solvent. This method may be used for comparison of the properties of different carbon-based materials. On heating to 1500°C, there is little difference in the behavior of the coke and anthracite, indicating that coke may be replaced by anthracite. The quantity and composition of the ash affects the formation of the melt of ash residues and their solidification on subsequent cooling. This behavior has significant influence on the process.
