Abstract

Temperature dependent thermoelectric power (TEP) of high Tc superconductor CaBaACu3Oy with A=Y, Yb, Er, Dy, Gd, Eu, Sm and La is studied to investigate the superconducting mechanism. For A=Y and Yb, negative TEP is observed. On the other hand, positive TEP is observed for A=La, Sm, Eu, Gd and Dy. In all samples, however, a broad peak is exhibited at near above the superconducting transition temperature. The atomic size of the Y and Lanthanide as well as the oxygen deficiency may be important for the observed TEP data. Qualitative description on the general features of resistivity and TEP data are presented.
