Abstract

The vapour pressures of four esters of acetic acid and of three fatty acids were measured by comparative ebulliometry; the ranges covered were from about 3 to 200 kPa for methyl, ethyl, and propyl acetates, and propionic acid, from 6.5 to 200 kPa for isopropyl acetate, from 3 to 157 kPa for butyric acid, and from 3 to 31 kPa for hexanoic acid. In addition, ebulliometric and static measurements from 100 kPa to the critical pressure were made on ethyl acetate. The critical temperatures of the four esters were determined and the critical pressures of methyl and ethyl acetates. The measurements were fitted by Antoine, Chebyshev, and (for methyl and ethyl acetates) Wagner equations and were compared with those previously published.
