Abstract

The calculated and the experimental data on the structure and the thermodynamic properties of water are analyzed in wide ranges of temperature and pressure. The conclusion is that water is a mixture of the low-density amorphous (lda) and high-density amorphous (hda) ice clusters near normal conditions with their approximate proportion of 2:3. The conclusion is supported by the results of D 2O quenching under a pressure of P=1.2 GPa when the quenched product was found to be a highly disordered crystalline phase with ice-XII as a prototype.
