Abstract

Thermochemical calculations were carried out for the selfpropagating high‐temperature synthesis (SHS) of SiC‐particulate‐reinforced MoSi2 composites. These composites can be prepared using the elemental powders of Mo, Si, and C by SHS. Adiabatic temperatures were calculated at different initial temperatures for the reactions forming MoSi2, SiC, and their composites. Amounts of liquid phase of MoSi2 formed at various temperatures and mole ratios were computed.
