Abstract

Based on the periodic analysis method, a mathematical model is developed to predict the thermal behaviour of a system consisting of a number of plastic bag solar water heaters connected in series and parallel combinations, in which the heat is extracted through heat exchangers. Numerical calculations are carried out to optimize the number of water heaters in series and in parallel for different flow rates. The results of the computation show that the overall efficiency of a shallow solar pond water heating system remains nearly constant for all fluid flow rates during any time of the year.
