Abstract

Abstract A generalization of the Evans nonequilibrium molecular dynamics (NEMD) heat flow algorithm which suppresses the shock wave instabilities is used to calculate the thermal conductivity of the two dimensional soft disk fluid over a wide range of densities. At low densities a new transverse instability is observed at large field strengths. We see no statistically significant evidence for the presumed divergence of thermal conductivity in two dimensional systems.
