Abstract

High temperature air combustion (HiTAC) is proved to be a promising combustion technology for industrial applications. HiTAC is more advantageous than conventional combustion technologies for several reasons: decreased energy consumption, enhanced heat transfer, the uniformity of temperature distribution, decreased CO 2 emission, low NOX and CO emissions. This article provides a comprehensive picture of the recent research and developments in HiTAC. The combustion modes of HiTAC system are discussed with the working principles of each mode. HiTAC flame characteristics, temperature distribution, NO X emission and burner design are presented with detailed discussion. Furthermore, the problems and focuses were summarized with some suggestions presented on upgrading and application of HiTAC in the future.
