Abstract

Introduction: chronic conditions of the central nervous system occur relatively frequently at early ages of life. They generate significant disability and decrease in the perception of quality of life both in patients and their families. The application of the Bobath method allows to improve mobility and decrease disability. Objective: to present the advantages of the application of the Bobath method in children with neurological dysfunction. Methodology: a prospective study conducted in 26 children with neurological dysfunction belonging to the province of Chimborazo through the application of the Bobath method. The treatment consisted of 20 Bobath sessions aimed at studying the behavior of different variables. Qualitative variables such as stroke quality and stability determined by the simple and sensitized Romberg test. The quantitative variables determined were the length of the step and the speed of the march. Result: average age of 8,87 years, predominance of male patients (69,23 %) and Down syndrome (42,31 %). It was possible to improve the stability at rest and of the march, the length of the step and the speed of the march. Conclusions: the application of the Bobath method, as a method of rehabilitation, constitutes a tool that favors the improvement of the parameters related to mobility.
