Abstract

Abstract Spin polarization of L23M23M23 Auger electrons from ferromagnetic Fe83B17 is calculated with a simplified model, and compared with recent experiments. The Auger electron spectrum has two peaks, corresponding to the singlet and triplet final states of a 3p hole pair. It is shown that the spin polarizations of the singlet and triplet peaks, respectively, originate from the exchange interaction between 3d and 2p spins and that between 3d and 3p spins. Similar effects are expected to be observed commonly for L23M23M23 Auger electrons from various ferromagnetic materials including transition elements.
