Abstract

The shape of the reverberation curve described in the previous paper can be explained if the scatterers in the water are assumed to be in motion. The reverberation is assumed to arise from a surface layer and from the main volume of the water. Formulas are given for the two components of reverberation. As an alternative, reverberation may be described in terms of general fluctuations in propagation conditions.
