Abstract

Objectives The purpose of conducting this scoping review is to locate and describe the theoretical models or frameworks currently used by authors to address the process of synthesis. The specific review question is: • What theoretical models or frameworks have been proposed that address the scholarship of integration? Criteria for considering studies for this review Problem: complex and challenging process of integrative research and evidence synthesis. Intervention: use of a model or framework. Context: use of models or frameworks in the context of performing systematic reviews or other forms of evidence synthesis. Outcome: description of a model(s) or framework(s) currently in use. Inclusion criteria Types of participants This review will not address a particular set of participants but will focus on the context of health care. Types of intervention(s)/phenomena of interest This review will consider all studies that discuss models or frameworks that are used specifically to address the process of synthesis. Given the range of terms used to refer to models and frameworks, the following terms will be included: • theoretical models • theoretical frameworks • conceptual models • conceptual frameworks • conceptual maps Types of outcomes This scoping review will describe all theoretical models or frameworks and discuss how they are used to assist with the process of synthesis.
