Abstract

Energy levels of neutral francium are investigated in the Ritz formalism along the Rydberg series up to n = 30. Transition probabilities are calculated for the s-p and p-d transitions. Core-polarization effects are included in the model adopted. The validity of the approach has been tested by comparison with the laser lifetime measurements available for the 7 and 7 states of Fr I and with the accurate data published for the Rb I and Cs I atoms.
