Abstract

Spin-polarized energy band structures show that correlation effects may be responsible for the observed semiconductive properties of the potassium salt of 7,7', 8,8'-tetracyanoquinodimethan (K +TCNQ −). The one-electron bandwidths calculated are comparable with the effective Coulomb repulsion suggesting the intermediate- to strong-coupling scheme as appropriate to this crystal.
