Abstract
This paper points to the difficulties that arise due to the lack of scientific expertise among administrative judges sitting environmental cases in Germany. It explains the crucial role of expert opinions in environmental litigation and it briefly illustrates the discussion on a potential reform of the system of independent scientific expertise.
