Abstract

The paper tabulates precipitation, streamflow and the Penman potential evaporation E T data for the Kirkton and Monachyle catchments from 1983 to 1989. The last 4 years of data relate to the period of land-use changes with felling of half of the forest in the Kirkton and planting of 14% of the Monachyle. The data are analysed to determine the water usage of the catchments and to compare this with the Penman E T. Further analysis using the Calder and Newson (1979, Water Resour. Bull., 15: 1628–1639) method provides information on the processes of water usage. No marked changes in water use have occurred so far in the 4 years since land-use changes began to be implemented.
