Abstract

This chapter discusses global broadcasting networks. In 1953, Voice of America (VOA) became the international broadcasting service of the United States Information Agency (USIA). In that year, the USIA began to make some long-term plans for its Voice', which were unique to VOA. It was to be the world's first truly global broadcasting network. Until then, all other countries had located their overseas broadcast transmitters within their own territory.
