Abstract

Chladni's figures have been produced at frequencies up to 20,000 by means of magnetostrictively excited tubes or rods of nickel. The velocity of sound in sheets of brass, iron, lead, ebonite, celluloid, cardboard and other materials has been measured with considerable accuracy by this means.
