Abstract

Social networking sites are used by hundreds of millions of people worldwide. Social networking sites can occur in schools, colleges, and universities, as well as at work, among people who share common interests. With the development of computer and internet technology, all the traditional activities are being transformed into digital ones. And the latest development in that is Web2.0, which includes the use of social networking sites. These sites were primarily used for socializing with friends and relatives. Those are being used most tremendously for academic and business purposes, particularly after the pandemic. In current research work, the researcher is trying to study the use of social networking sites by library science students and researcher scholars for academic purposes. For the present study, the questionnaire has been used to obtain the data keeping in mind the objectives of the study. Data has been collected from LIS students and research scholars of Kurukshetra University Kurukshetra (KUK). 59.46% of KUK are in favor of restricted use of SNSs, and 40.54% are against any type of limitation regarding the use of Internet and SNS. 68.49% of respondents are not aware of the IT Act 66A+ 67 only a total of 31.50% of respondents are aware of this act. 72.60% use SNSs as it helps in keeping them updated. The researcher found that users are aware of the use of SNS, but could not aware of the government policies regarding the use of SNS and most of the time information delivered is wrong. So that delivering proper knowledge to the students about the use of SNS is mandatory.
