Abstract

The change in the velocity of Rayleigh waves in deformable materials is investigated. An instrument for the accurate measurement of the velocity of propagation of ultrasonic waves is described. It is shown that it is possible to use the method of measuring the velocity for the quality control of zirconium billets, used in the cold rolling of the claddings of the fuel elements of nuclear reactors.
