Abstract

The growth of a known strain of Claviceps purpurea on several homogenates of three different stages of rye inflorescence has been compared qualitatively. The liquid phase of the filtered homogenates supported the best growth, and most satisfactory results were achieved with the use of fruiting inflorescences. Growth was greatly inhibited in all conditions in the absence of chlorophyll.
