Abstract

Trade union management issues are relevant in all of the European Union, but especially in the new member states of the EU, one of them being Latvia. The aim of the article is to analyse the usage of strategic management in Latvian trade unions. The tasks are: to examine trade union as an organisation; to provide a historical overview of trade union strategic planning and strategic management; and to offer a new trade union strategic management model, created by the author. The theoretical and methodological basis of the article consists of the scientific literature, publications and the Internet resources from the EU countries, as well as those from Canada, Australia, and the USA. The results from the author’s empirical research on Latvian trade unions have also been used.
