Abstract

During a recent trip to Germany I received as a gift from the German political scientist Klaus von Böhme his recently published book analyzing systemic changes in Eastern Europe, including the former Soviet Union. Von Böhme classifies these countries on the basis of their present political status, which places Russia in a group of countries occupying an intermediate position between democratic countries and countries that have retained an authoritarian regime.
