Abstract

The quenching rate constants ( k q) for triplet energy transfer from aromatic hydrocarbons to trans and cis azobenzene have been measured by flash kinetic spectrophotometry. For both isomers the plot log k qversus E T of the donors shows a “non-classical” behaviour. A model of the energy-transfer process, which accounts for the experimental k q values, allows the energy of the lowest triplet state of both isomers to be determined.
